Outreach is an integral and critical part in the life of CHT. Many new worshipers choose to be involved at CHT because of wide variety of outreach work we do in the community. A very large percentage of members are involved in this area of ministry. We encourage all to participate at a level they are able and comfortable. This means we have members who bring in donations for collection boxes, members who cut checks and support organizations with generous donations, members who prepare meals for our homeless neighbors, members who share a meal with someone who usually eats alone, to members who do advocacy work for those who do not have a voice.
CHT is also a host meeting site for Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Marijuana Anonymous, and Overeaters Anonymous. Meetings are held several times per week for the public. Facilitators are from the larger community. For the full schedule of 12-Step groups, please Click Here.

There is no shortage of information documenting Philadelphia as the “poorest” city of its size in the country. According to 2009 figures, nearly twice as many residents live below the poverty line in this city as the rest of the state. Nearly twenty-five percent of the city’s native-born residents live below the poverty line, as do almost one-third of its children. At CHT, we believe these people are our neighbors, and part of our work is to strive for justice and respect the dignity of every human being, as our baptismal covenant enjoins upon us. “The care of another person—even material, bodily care—is spiritual in essence. Bread for oneself is a material question; bread for my neighbor is a spiritual question.
