The world is a different thing to each individual because it passes through a unique self. The interesting thing about the self, however, is that it is also manifold: it changes on a whim, evolves over time, responds to new circumstances, and is often contradictory.

How do we uncover, understand, and relate to our various sides of self? How do we use this understanding to strengthen our connection with the things around us? This topic will also serve as a foundation for the following two weeks.

Join us at CHT on Sunday, October 22 at 9:30 AM for an most interesting discussion!

Voice of a War: A Musical Memoir of “The Great War”

Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia (MCC) proudly presents the first self-produced performance of its 144th season, Voice of a War: A Musical Memoir of “The Great War”. This beautiful musical memoir combines bold new perspectives on classic wartime pieces—creating a touching memorial of the 100th anniversary of the United States entering World War I. With Ben Cohen, director and Michael Gould, percussionist, this powerful collection of English music and poetry marks the final year of the centennial anniversary of World War I, and juxtaposes classical works such as Walford Davies’ A Short Requiem with trench songs such as It’s a Long Way to Tipperary. With the addition of narrated poetry, percussion, and even an air raid siren, Voice of a War is a truly theatrical, immersive performance. A solo percussionist helps weave together the choral music and spoken word in this stunning performance that serves as a memorial to “The Great War.”

Tickets can be purchased as Season Subscriptions, or as individual tickets on www.mcchorus.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Veterans and active duty service members are offered free tickets to Voice of a War through both Mendelssohn Club and the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service division. Contact Mendelssohn Club at 215.735.9922 to arrange complimentary tickets.
