What did is the tradition of the Choral Matins?

The service of Choral Matins is the tradition of sung morning prayer and is an old practice within Anglican churches. Matins was the longest service in the breviary, which is the liturgical book used for recitation containing the canonical hours. Originally, matins would begin several areas before dawn, and during the rule of St. Benedict of Nursia, matins would actually begin at 2:00 in the morning! Matins focuses on the reading of Scripture, the singing of psalms and canticles, prayers, and a sermon.
